👣 He's Walking Side by Side

“The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I dedicated you,
a prophet to the nations I appointed you.”

— Jeremiah 1:4

One morning over a stack of french toast, my close friend and I sat staring teary eyed at each other reminiscing. I shared how I was coming to the realization that when I come to God with questions of:

Should I move?
Should I change jobs?
Should I date this person?
Should I pursue this or that project?

He rarely answers the question and is way more interested in who I am becoming.

As I wrestle with questions like these, his response continuously surprises me. When I asked God, “Should I change jobs? Is it time?” He answered, “be still and know that I am God.” You see, he didn’t answer my question of whether I should leave my job or not, he told me who he wanted to be for me and who he wanted me to be in him.

God desires for us to trust him wholeheartedly and he wants to be the person we trust over any thing that can occupy our thoughts. As I reflect on this and other similar moments with God, I come to the realization that he wants us to know that he is walking right beside us every step of the way. My friend responded, “and that is enough.” We teared up at the thought that he loves us so much and is so invested that he walks with us. I guess, that is enough, I wish I lived in that reality more often.

I pray that in this moment you know he created us beautiful, he wants us to be that, he wants us to discover it side by side to him; He walks with us uncovering this truth one step at a time. Every day, every stage, every memory he heals, every person he introduces you to, every friendship, every broken relationship, every moment you encounter is making you into who he created you to be and leading you to his heart.

“I lose my ability to be afraid / When I see the way you love me / All the fears that held my feet to the floor / They don’t hold me anymore…”

— “I Lose My Ability” by Jonathan David and Melissa Helser
